”I Leave My Little Heart in My Mother’s Chest“, is an emotional exploration of the intricate connections between family, time, and the hidden stories that shape our lives. It’s a contemplation of how our personal ‘little hearts’ are both preserved and concealed within the intimate spaces of the unspoken legacy of family history. The short film and installation features my mother’s wooden cabinet, imagined as a vessel for delving into hidden and secretive aspects of life.
Through this project, seemingly ordinary objects of everyday life — a cabinet, a comb—take on a deeper significance. These simple items represent the passage of time, tying the present to the past, serving as a tangible link between generations. The cabinet’s design, with its intricately carved geometric patterns, allows glimpses into its contents from the outside, giving us permission to peer into a space that guards so much of what remains unsaid and unseen.: Film Screening of “I Leave My Little Heart in My Mother’s Closet” by AIM Affiliate member Sawsan AlSaraf.
