Hi! I’m Hannah Duffew (they/she), an interdisciplinary PhD researcher and disability activist based at Edinburgh College of Art, part of the University of Edinburgh. I work at an institution in the United Kingdom built upon histories of colonialism, slavery, with histories of research into eugenics. While I stand in direct opposition to these histories, I materially benefit from their construction through my work at the university.

Residing in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal from September to December 2025 for a visiting doctoral placement with the Access in the Making lab, I will be working on the development of more-than-human-cripborg theory. A concept/figure/landscape/future that brings together discussions from crip ecologies, technoscience, and disabled survival wisdom. Central to this research is an interest in how disabled experiences of design and materiality can support environmental movements that have often excluded the needs and expertise of disabled communities. I have been working with a group of disabled people in Edinburgh using participatory and speculative methods to learn more about their experiences and knowledge in the construction of this theory, and possible outcomes and implications.

I am also a founding member of the Scottish Critical Disability Studies and Medical Humanities PGR (SCAMP) network that launched in 2025, alongside other PhD researchers in these fields. Inspired by groups like AIM, we hope to bring together researchers across Scotland to exchange knowledge amongst ourselves and with our communities.
